Tesla S vs RENNtech tune only E63

Wednesday, February 6th, 2013

From Carbuzz.com

Published: Feb 05, 2013

The same Tesla Model S that successfully beat a Dodge Viper in a quarter-mile showdown is back this week going up against a Mercedes E63 AMG.

Instant torque is a wonderful thing yet EVs in general are not popular amongst gearheads and probably never will be. That doesn’t distract from the fact the new Tesla Model S is quite the performance machine. For last week’s installment of Drag Race Tuesdays we saw the Model S successfully beat the Dodge Viper SRT10 on a quarter mile strip. As a result, it set a new record as the world’s fastest production EV.

Now that same Model S is back, this time going up against a RENNtech-tuned Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG. So can the mighty EV repeat its incredible performance from last week? Check out this week’s quarter-mile showdown to find out.

RENNtech CLS 63 Biturbo Down Pipes

Wednesday, November 21st, 2012

RENNtech performance down pipes replace the restrictive stock exhaust for improved performance, reduced back pressure, greater exhaust gas volume and better sound.

Combined with RENNTECH’s ECU software our CLS 63 down pipes create an incredible sound with performance to match.

Our down pipes mate perfectly with the stock CLS exhaust system and include all necessary mounting hardware and clamps. High-strength 304 stainless steel construction ensures lasting quality and a rich, consistent sound. The down pipes are available with 200 cell sport cats or in a catalytic bypass version.

Here is a video with a sound clip of the exhaust:

Matt Farah visits RENNtech and drives our CLS 63

Wednesday, September 5th, 2012

from thesmokingtire.com:

With all the tuners we feature there is the question of “How did you get started?” Why are they here, and what gives them the credibility to convert money into speed. With the company RENNtech, that man is Hartmut Feyhl. Cred? Yes. He started working at the AMG facility when he was 17. He worked there for 12 years, then served as the North American technical director, all before he opened RENNtech. The famous AMG Hammer? The one Chris Harris just drove (For the CH fanboys, this must have been like finding the first Playboy Pamela Anderson did, complete with bush.)? Those were built by Hartmut. Back then it was almost impossible to import a German car (one that wasn’t approved for U.S.). So AMG’s solution was convert some W124s that were already in America. Really, he was there for AMGs genesis. So, bringing your car to him is like bringing it back to AMG itself and saying, “Please, Sir, may I have some more?” More horsepower porridge, coming right up.

That’s what they’re doing with this CLS 63 AMG, a car that won our hearts in stock form (a memory now completely erased and over-shadowed by this superior rolling-burnout factory), RENNtech has modified the turbos, transmission and diffs so it produces over 700HP. They were still developing the kit, so it will eventually have almost 800HP, and (on the right tires) run 9s. 9 second 1/4 mile with massage seats, leather, and NAV, in a car as long as the street you live on. It’s simply ridiculous. watch the episode:

RENNtech customized the Akrapovic titanium evolution exhaust to fit the new C63 Black Series as it sports a different rear diffuser with  floating exhaust tips.  Putting down and impressive 500 HP (499.39 to be exact), the C63 Black Series now puts down some serious power to match its menacing exhaust note.

CLS63 Biturbo 10.79 @ 130.77mph- Fastest Run To Date

Tuesday, May 15th, 2012

From RoadTest TV:

We recently attended the StreetCarDrags.com event held at Palm Beach International Raceway on May 6, 2012. This is the 3rd StreetCarDragsevent we attended, and, as before, many amazing cars showed up to race including multiple Corvette ZR1s, GTRs, Vipers, Evos, Camaros and some Benzes. Trophies were awarded for the Fastest American Car, Fastest Japanese Car, Fastest European Car, Best 60 foot time and Best Reaction Time.

The Benz that brought home the trophy for the Fastest European car was RENNtech’s 2012 CLS63 with a stout 10.79 @ 130.77 mph. RENNtech brought out a few of its project cars and gladly accepted our request to strap some of our test equipment into its record setting 2012 CLS63 to get some performance numbers.

May in South Florida is generally warm and humid, and May 6th was no exception. At the time of our testing, the temperatures were in the mid to high 80s with a density altitude of over 2000 feet.  Despite the less than desirable conditions, the acceleration numbers were staggering from RENNtech’s warmed over V8 BiTurbo CLS63 …. as you can see from the data below:

RENNtech        STOCK
0 to 60 mph       3.0 seconds   ( 4.2 seconds)
0 to 100 mph     6.5 seconds   ( 9.2 seconds)
60 to 130 mph    7.6 seconds   (11.4 seconds)

The RENNtech CLS63 has the following mods: RENNtech modified ECU, larger heat exchanger, high efficiency intercooler pump, 100% locking differential, high flow downpipes with 200 cell cats, drag radials and front skinnies. The RENNtech CLS is still equipped with its stock turbos and stock airboxes (for now..), and the car retains all of its stock interior as no weight was taken out of the vehicle.

We also got a chance to log some miles on this car after the event and can say, without hesitation, that the rush of power from the RENNtech mods is eye ball flattening at every RPM.   However, the RENNtech CLS63 is a docile as a stock CLS63 for everyday use.
