NEW LSD FROM RENNTECH

Friday, December 19th, 2008

For the Mercedes /AMG-enthusiast who has it all, RENNTECH has announced a new line of limited-slip differentials just in time for the holidays.

Founded by ex-AMG technical director Hartmut Feyhl, RENNTECH has built a solid reputation by delivering useable, real-world performance since 1989, and these new diffs (a RENNTECH-only component produced by OS Giken) continue RENNTECH’s nearly 20-year tradition of tuning excellence.

“This new differential is very unique, and different from anything that has been available up to now,” explains Feyhl. “First, the OS Giken diff. is a true 100% locking differential, and because it uses significantly more friction surfaces internally, there is a very smooth transmission of power to the inside wheel at the track with virtually no noise and chatter on the road.”

RENNTECH’s new rear differentials are based on OS Giken’s line of Super-Lock LSD, which functions as a traditional open diff. in low and normal-load situations, transforming smoothly into a 100% fully locking diff. as loads rise. Hartmut raves about the new unit, calling it “the smoothest and quietest limited-slip I have ever driven – very much like factory. This diff. makes my AMG feel much more sportscar-like and responsive.”

Prices range from $4995 for V8 AMG models to $7995 for SLR and tuned 65 series AMGs.

NEW SL65 VIDEO FROM UP.TV

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

UP.TV just posted a new video of the SL65 Black Series AMG ultra high-performance coupe. The video itself looks very similar to what Mercedes itself sent to the press a few months ago (HERE), but at least it’s in English!

We’re eagerly awaiting the first one of these to arrive at RENNTECH – we expect big things from this car. Big things.

Yet another excellent video covering the SL65 Black Series – this time with driving ace Bernd Schneider behind the wheel and sharing his impressions of AMG’s latest big gun sports coupe.

We’re eagerly awaiting the first examples to land in the US, and on our dyno …

SL65 BLACK SERIES AT N-RING

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

— from CarZi, CLICK HERE for original article.

CarZi posted these great pics of what appears to be an SL65 mule lapping the ‘ring. No word on times – but (with 661 hp and 738 ft-lb of torque) they should be fairly strong!

CLK63 BLACK ON TOP GEAR

Friday, July 18th, 2008

The new season BBC’s hit show TopGear is now in full swing – and this video of the 500 hp Mercedes /AMG CLK63 Black Series is just one more example of why this should be everyone’s favorite show.

All these crazy Brit antics are fun, sure – but still, considering RENNTECH recently announced a comprehensive tuning package that boosted hp by 50 (and torque by 45-60 lb-ft between 2400 and 5000 rpm) you might have to watch the above in FFWD to get an idea of what we’re doing in Florida.

Enjoy the clip!

We can’t wait to get one of these on our dyno!!

SL65 BLACK SERIES DEBUT

Friday, July 11th, 2008

Last night, the Autoblog posted MB’s press release announcing the official release of the SL65 AMG Black Series (pictured, above). Their post is quoted below; CLICK HERE to see the original Autoblog post (incl. hi-res photo gallery).

After months of spy shots and speculation, the Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Series is finally out in the open. And with a $320,000 price tag, a twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 and only 200 units on their way to the U.S., it’s a serious stopgap between the deceased SLR and Mercedes’ 2011 SLC gullwing supercar.

Mercedes’ in-house tuners applied their tried and true philosophy to the SL65 AMG Black Series, beginning with a carbon fiber hood, fenders and trunk, along with nixing the retractable hard top in favor of a fixed carbon fiber roof with an integrated roll cage. As such, the Black is 550 pounds lighter than the stock SL65, coming in at 4,122 pounds.

Seven vents – three in the bumper, two on the hood and two in the fenders – feed copious quantities of air to the 6.0-liter V12, fitted with a duo of upgraded turbochargers. Power is up to 661 hp available at 5,400 rpm, while torque remains the same at 738 lb.-ft. With a five-speed automatic gearbox equipped with AMG’s speedshift software, the Black can hit 60 mph in 3.9 seconds on its way to a gearing-limited top speed of 199 mph.

Expect the SL65 AMG Black Series to debut in Paris, with sales beginning in the U.S. early next year.
